Tipped off by an anonymous source, the website reports that redesigned MacBook Pros are expected to debut sometime early this summer, with a revamped MacBook Air, a new low-end MacBook Pro, and an all-new Mac Pro workstation to follow later in the year. It’s the kind of news that’s making us eager to need to update our look at the best home computers (opens in new tab) and best laptops (opens in new tab) and if past entries by Apple are anything to go by, it’s going to happen sooner or later. The thinking behind the redesigned MacBook Pros is that they will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch varieties with a redesigned chassis, the reintroduction of magnetic MagSafe charging (always our preferred method of charging) as well as more ports for connecting external devices. It’s also anticipated that there’ll be a return of the HDMI port and SD card slot - both features that were much missed in recent MacBook Pro entries. It’s also expected that the new MacBook Pros will feature new processors including a 10-core Apple Silicon CPU with eight high-performance cores and two-energy efficiency cores so that you get the best of both worlds. Improved graphics cards should also be part of the deal, along with the ability to upgrade your system to a whopping 64GB of RAM. All the sort of thing you’d expect from a system referred to as a Pro device then.
More new Apple devices too
Besides the MacBook Pro news, Bloomberg’s source also states that a revamped MacBook Air will launch at the end of the year with an improved M1 chip and a better graphics card. It may even benefit from a choice of iMac-inspired colors too. If you’re looking for the fastest of experiences however, you may need to wait until 2022 for the ‘all-new’ Mac Pro. It’s anticipated to have either 20 or 40 cores with similarly beefy graphics cards accompanying it. Of course, this is all rumor for now but it’s a reasonably logical next step for Apple. It’s made a lot of waves in recent times thanks to its use of its own Apple-designed processor, stepping away from its previous relationship with Intel, and it’s just released the revamped and frankly gorgeous Apple iMac (2021). That means it’s likely to be the time for a huge revamp across the board to keep up momentum. If you’re looking to buy a new MacBook Pro, you may wish to hold off for a little longer and see what comes of the summer release schedule.
