The report comes from two different reporters, Jez Corden via the Xbox Two Podcast and Jeff Grubb of Games Beat. Both say that a lengthy fantasy RPG with melee action combat is being developed with a focus on the Wu-Tang Clan. Corden explains that the game’s world and story will be developed around “Wu-Tang Clan lore” and that the Wu-Tang Clan itself will be creating the game’s soundtrack. It’s no sequel to Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, but perhaps that’s for the best.

Elaborating further on the Wu-Tang game’s gameplay, Corden compares it to Minecraft Dungeons. He does say that he doesn’t know if the game will have an isometric point of view, like Diablo, however. He does say that like Diablo and Minecraft Dungeons, the Wu-Tang game features co-op gameplay supporting up to four players. It’ll involve looting, dungeon crawling, and an endgame focus. Further, it’ll have a “beefy campaign” that lasts “a couple dozen hours.”
Just as interesting as the game itself and its relationship to the Wu-Tang Clan is who is making and who is backing the project. The new Wu-Tang game is being developed by Brass Lion Entertainment, a young studio focused on “fictional universes that enter on Black, Brown, and other traditionally marginalized characters, cultures, and stories.” Further, it’s said to be backed by Microsoft, which could mean it’ll be a PC and Xbox exclusive, included with Xbox Game Pass.
For the time being, the in-development Wu-Tang game is codenamed Project Shaolin. That may be a reference to Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, or it could just refer to Wu-Tang’s love of martial arts. Some might recall that Project Shaolin was listed in the Nvidia GeForce Now leaks published mid-September.
Unfortunately, there’s little information available regarding launch plans for Wu-Tang’s Project Shaolin. Corden does say that the game is “pretty early” in development, which likely means it’s years away from reaching a presentable state. However, Project Shaolin isn’t likely going to be a massive, AAA production. Depending on the scale of the production, perhaps Project Shaolin is closer than some expect.
Wu-Tang’s Project Shaolin is rumored to be in development.
