Police are especially interested in Dennehy’s relationship with one of his roommates, Carlton Dotson. Neighbors say the two were very close, and went practically everywhere together. Last week a friend of Dennehy’s told police that the men may have bought guns. Dennehy had complained that a mysterious man named “Harvey” was threatening him, and he may have wanted to protect himself.
Those guns could prove critical to the case. According to court documents released last week, an informant told investigators that Dotson said he and Dennehy had gotten into an argument while the two men were shooting guns on a property 21 miles north of the campus. In the affidavit, the informant says Dotson told a cousin that Dennehy pointed a 9mm pistol at his head “as if to shoot him.” Dotson said he then shot Dennehy in the head, killing him. Police later found shell casings on the property. Dotson, who has co-operated with police, has not admitted to or been accused of any crime–and police say they’re still holding out a “glimmer of hope” that Dennehy will just “show up,” alive.
