Thankfully LEGO Star Wars fans can look forward to the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga in the near future. After its delay, Traveller’s Tales indicated that the game would release in spring 2021, which has nearly arrived. However, there’s one thing notably still missing from The Skywalker Saga’s impending release, and that’s the specific date of the release. One would think that Traveller’s Tales would have said something by now. Although technically the release is in a wider window of the first and second quarter of 2021, the first quarter is nearly over. When is The Skywalker Saga going to resurface?

A Wide Window
Part of the reason that it’s hard to speculate on when exactly The Skywalker Saga will release is that it’s unclear how much work Traveller’s Tales felt it still had left to do. On the one hand, the game could be out sooner rather than later, indicating that there was just a bit of fine tuning to be done that the developers felt they should take a couple extra months to get right. On the other hand, The Skywalker Saga might have hit secret roadblocks in development and needed a ton of work to get right, amount to a five or six month delay. Considering how wide the window for its release is, either could be true.
The hope for fans is that the prior possibility is the case. After all, Traveller’s Tales delayed the game a long time ago, not just before the 2020 holidays. A LEGO Star Wars trailer released last August confirmed that the game wouldn’t be out until 2021. Since the date was pushed back so preemptively, one would hope that it means The Skywalker Saga just needed an extra cushion in development time. If that is the case, though, there really should be a release date out by now. It’d be a rare sight to see a Skywalker Saga’s release date in April announced in March.

A Prime Time for Star Wars
Maybe Traveller’s Tales is keeping the exact release date close to its chest on purpose. It might want to surprise fans with a sudden release, announcing it only a couple weeks beforehand. That kind of sudden release would be unintentional, but it might not be an obstacle to its success. LEGO games and LEGO Star Wars in particular are hugely successful, and so fans are ready to jump on the game as soon as possible. It’s also a good type of multiplayer game that fans can play with a friend or family member at home, so it’s a great game to pick up while social distancing continues.
There’s also the fact that Star Wars is a hot topic of conversation right now. Season 2 of The Mandalorian just came and went, and now fans are looking forward to a slew of new Star Wars shows that are on the horizon. Many fans hope that these shows will turn into DLCs for The Skywalker Saga. It’d certainly be exciting to see the Mandalorian and his allies and enemies join the already huge cast of playable characters. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is easily one of the ambitious LEGO games to date. Hopefully its bold ideas and big promises aren’t keeping it from its already late release.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga releases in spring 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
