“It’s the right thing to do: give people life. My son don’t have life,” Jimmy Nolan told the Journal News. “Whoever gets his heart, they’re going to run for … That kid used to run six, seven, eight miles a day.”

The Yonkers native was shot in the head and torso on Sept. 18 in a drive-by shooting while at a Burger King. He had surgery Tuesday to relieve pressure from his brain and his family was hopeful he could recover.

Mike Nolan was a 6-7 left-handed pitcher taken in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The 23-year-old signed with the A’s later in the year, but soon after was put on the restricted list of the A’s Arizona League affiliate.

Donna Nolan said support from the Yonkers community has been overwhelming, but also comforting.

“I think that’s what’s gotten us through a lot the last three weeks,” she told the paper.

Nolan’s coach at Saunders High School, Anthony Nicodemo, and the A’s both tweeted condolences.

No arrests have been made in the shooting.
