Los Angeles Clippers Preview
The red-hot Los Angeles Clippers will put their seven-game win streak on the line when they travel to Texas to take on the sinking San Antonio Spurs.
After a middling start to the new season, the Clippers have caught fire of late, winning nine of their last 11 games to move to the third spot in the Western Conference Standings.
They enter the clash against San Antonio on the back of a gritty victory on the road against the Grizzlies, in which they erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to seal a two-point win.
Kawhi Leonard sat out the previous game, which was the second of a back-to-back, due to knee soreness, but he will return for the trip to San Antonio, adding more firepower to an already loaded Los Angeles side.
Key Player - Kawhi Leonard
The best two-way player in the league, Leonard has had a strong start to the new season. The 2019 NBA Finals MVP is averaging 25.8 points and eight rebounds per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, and has led his side to a 14-5 start to the season.
Considering San Antonio’s struggles on the defensive end of the floor - Gregg Popovich’s side are allowing oppositions to shoot 47.7% from the field - Leonard will fancy another big night.
Clippers predicted lineup
Kawhi Leonard, Maurice Harkless, Ivica Zubac, Paul George, Patrick Beverley
San Antonio Spurs Preview
San Antonio got off to a flying start, winning four of their opening five games. However, they’ve since fallen off a cliff, dropping nine of their last ten, including five straight at home.
They’ve struggled on both ends of the floor and enter their clash against the Clippers on the back of a dismal display against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The defeat to Minnesota was Spurs’ 13th of the season and their 6-13 record is the third-worst in the conference.
After heading into the new season optimistic about their chances of securing a playoff berth, it looks as though San Antonio will now need to reassess their goals moving forward.
Key Player - LaMarcus Aldridge
Despite the Spurs’ struggles as a unit, LaMarcus Aldridge has had an impressive season thus far. He poured in a team-high 22 points against the Timberwolves last time out and also registered six rebounds and an assist.
Aldridge is averaging 18.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season and shooting a career-high 36.3% from deep. He will need similar production if the Spurs are to have any shot at taking down the Clippers.
Spurs predicted lineup
DeMar DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jakob Poeltl, Bryn Forbes, Derrick White
Clippers vs Spurs Match Prediction
The Clippers enter this contest as red-hot favorites. They’ve won seven on the trot and don’t look like stopping anytime soon.
San Antonio, on the other hand, have lost five consecutive home games and seem to lack leadership on the court.
Their struggles on both ends of the court should be easily exposed by the Clippers, who possess arguably the two best two-way players in the league in Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
The likes of Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams also provide additional scoring options off the bench and ultimately, Los Angeles should have too much firepower for the Spurs to contend with.
