How they got here

The Dodgers (43-17) won the National League West and had the best regular-season record in all of baseball, and the Braves (35-25) won the National League East in the COVID-shortened season.

The Dodgers swept the Milwaukee Brewers in two games to clinch the Wild Card series and then swept the San Diego Padres in three games to take the National League Division Series. The Dodgers then came from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Braves in the NLCS.

The Rays had the best record in the American at 40-20, which was second in all of baseball only to the Dodgers. Tampa Bay swept the Toronto Blue Jays in two game during the AL Wild Card series, then needed a full five games to beat the New York Yankees in the ALDS. They took a 3-0 lead on the Astros in the ALCS before Houston tied it up. Tampa Bay won Game 7 by a 4-2 score on Saturday night.
