The Lakers have fallen out of the Western Conference playoff spots due to the injury sustained by LeBron James, and it is now clearer than ever that the Lakers needs to add at least one or two additions in order to increase the team’s chances of securing a postseason appearance.
Due to this, both incomings and outgoings are expected in the next 24 hours, and here we will look at the trade rumors that are making the rounds ahead of the deadline.
#3 No progress has been made on a trade for Anthony Davis
In their pursuit of Anthony Davis, the Lakers have reportedly offered the Pelicans a package that includes Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, Ivica Zubac, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and two first round picks.
Nevertheless, the Pelicans reportedly have no intention of dealing the six-time All-Star, and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that no progress has been made on a deal:
Davis has requested a trade away from the Pelicans ahead of the trade deadline, and it is widely believed that the Lakers are among his preferred destinations.
Nevertheless, the Boston Celtics have reportedly urged the Pelicans to hold off on trading the 25-year-old until the summer, as the Celtics are expected to make a huge offer of their own.
#2 Lonzo Ball prefers the Suns over Pelicans, Lakers not interested
Lonzo Ball’s future with the Lakers continues to be in doubt due to the Lakers pursuit of Anthony Davis.
If a trade is finally agreed upon, Ball and the entire Lakers young core will be dealt to New Orleans and both Lonzo and his father LaVar have expressed their desire to avoid playing for the Pelicans.
Nevertheless, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor is reporting that the Lakers won’t be swayed by the Ball’s personal interests:
Despite the addition of the experienced Rajon Rondo, Ball has remained the Lakers starting point guard for much of the season, and the 21-year-old is currently averaging 9.9 points, 5.4 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game.
#1 Caldwell-Pope is increasingly likely to stay
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been linked with a trade away from the Lakers since the early stages of the season.
Nevertheless, Caldwell-Pope has recently managed to force himself into Luke Walton’s rotation, and the Los Angeles Times reported earlier this week that the 25-year-old was set to stay until the summer:
Since the LA Times report, Caldwell-Pope has been linked with a swap for Jabari Parker of the Chicago Bulls, although these rumors have since been played down, as Parker looks set for a move to the Wizards.
Ultimately, due to Caldwell-Pope’s ability to turn down a trade, a move looks highly in the next 24 hours.
