Lost Ark players on Reddit recently had a bit of fun at the expense of the Sorceress’ clothing options. One Reddit user noticed that “pants” for the Sorceress class get increasingly skimpy as their level increases and created a funny image playing the trend out to its logical conclusion.

Reddit user ZhumosTheBlue created an image showing three sets of pants ordered from the lowest to the highest level. The first item, Blessed Earth Pants, are level 70 and resembles a pair of brown hotpants. The second item, level 90 Brilliant Director Pants, seem to be a very fancy bikini bottom. Next is the level 302 Crossing Paths Pants, which is an even smaller bikini bottom. The final image shows a length of string with the label “ilvl 1000?”
“As a new player leveling a sorceress,” the top comment reads, “I fully expect to get to the end game and be handed 2 [band-aids] and a cork for armor.” Another replied that most high-level sorceresses seem to be running around in a “summer-dress bikini thingy.” While that’s not quite what the first comment described, it still indicates that late-game items may lack stylistic variety. Additional comments complained about how Lost Ark’s late-game Sorceress gear is not just skimpy but boring in a possible effort to push players toward premium character skins.
Meanwhile, one clever commenter suggested that perhaps the Sorceress’s magic is powered by photosynthesis, so their clothing lets them get as much sun as possible. Skimpier outfits can make it hard to take the game seriously. And while this criticism could be levied at many other games, plenty of other RPGs manage to have attractive female characters without going as far off the deep end as Lost Ark does.
Jokes aside, the lack of variety seems to be the most significant criticism of the game’s clothing design. These critiques weren’t just of the Sorceress either, with Lost Ark’s Paladin and Bard also catching flack for their clothing options. And while plenty of other games have skimpy outfits for their female characters, it arguably stands out more because of Lost Ark’s controversial gender-locking.
Lost Ark is available now on Windows PC.
