Though the prologue was designed to help teach players the basics, gameplay in Lost Judgment is constantly expanding. This means that there are many more tutorial sections to come; not just in Chapter 1, but right up to the end of the game. Thankfully, however, these no longer come at such a frantic pace, which really helps things to feel a lot more fluid moving forward.
How to Find Yokohama 99
Players will start the chapter outside Yokohama Station, which isn’t too far from where they need to be. The game will automatically direct them towards Yokohama 99, on a route that will take them through the City’s restaurant street. Here, Tak and Kaito will run into some high schoolers harassing a restaurant owner and will decide to teach the delinquent students a lesson before continuing on.
The grateful business owner will hand over a Wristband to show his gratitude, which can be equipped in the Gear tab of the items menu. After doing so, players should continue on to Yokohama 99, where they’ll need to speak with both Sugiura and Tsukumo to progress the story. The pair will mention that they have set up a meeting with a client for later that night, which will also serve as a welcome party for Tak and Kaito.
When players next gain control, they’ll have the option to explore Yokohama a little more or head straight to the Kyoinro restaurant. There aren’t any side cases available just yet, so, unless players want to indulge in some minigames or a spot of streetfighting, it’s probably best to head straight to Kyoinro at this time.
What to Ask the Chairman
Upon entering the restaurant, players will be introduced to Okuda, who is the chairman of a private school called Seiryo High. They’ll then need to ask him why he is hiring detectives and why he can’t trust the teachers, after which they’ll be able to end the conversation and the group will finally start eating.
How to Get the Skateboard
After dinner, players will return to Yokohama 99, where Sugiura will give Tak a skateboard as part of an automatic side case. Tsukumo will then ask him to head over to a nearby pawnshop to purchase a rare action figure. Players will only have three minutes to get there, but as it’s a fairly short journey, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue; especially with Tak’s new skateboard.
A reseller will show up shortly after Tak makes his purchase, prompting yet another fight. The thrifty Yakuza member is armed with a baseball bat, making this the most challenging one yet, but players can switch over to Snake Style to make things a little easier. Once the reseller has been defeated, players will automatically return to Yokohama 99.
Where to Set Up the Cameras
Following their return, players should rest up on the couch and then hop in a taxi to Seiryo High School once morning rolls around. After a few more cutscenes and conversations, Tak and Kaito will be tasked with placing some cameras around the school. Three of them need to go by the shoe lockers near the main entrance, while another should be placed in the stairwell between the first and second floors.
With the first few cameras now set up, Tak and Kaito will split up, meaning that players will need to set up the next few cameras on their own. They should therefore continue up to the third floor, being sure to place another camera in the stairwell as they do. If they head up towards the roof, they’ll find a janitor sat on the stairs and so will need him to move before they can place the next camera.
How to Make the Janitor Leave
While in observation mode, players should examine the janitor’s water bottle. Tak will notice that he has peeled off the label and thus deduce that he must be reusing the bottle because he’s short of cash. With this in mind, players should offer him ¥1,000 to move, which he’ll gladly accept before leaving.
With the janitor now gone, players can finally place the camera and are now ready to return to the third floor. There, they’ll find a bathroom right next to the stairs, in which Tak will decide to place another camera. With that taken care of, it’s time to return to Kaito down on the second floor, where there are two more cameras still to be installed.
The first of these is placed automatically as part of a cutscene, after which Tak and Kaito will notice the delinquent students from the day before heading into a nearby classroom. Naturally, they decide to place their final camera in there and so players will need to make their way inside classroom 2-2 without arousing any suspicion.
Just before Tak and Kaito can place the last hidden camera, however, the class’ homeroom teacher shows up and begins to question the pair. Players should tell her that they were hired by the chairman and then let her know that the chairman’s name is Okuda-san when prompted. This will be enough to douse her suspicions, allowing Tak to set up the final camera.
How to Examine the Bullied Student
With all of the cameras now in place, players should make their way to the gymnasium, which is on the other side of the first-floor courtyard. After only a few minutes of monitoring the cameras, the detectives will witness their first instance of bullying, after which players will need to make their way back over to Class 2-2.
Upon their arrival, players are tasked with examining the bullied student. They should first focus on the workbook on the desk, which will reveal her name to be Mami Koda. They’ll also need to examine the writing on the back of her right hand, before making their way to the chairman’s office up on the third floor to report the incident.
How to Respond to the Chairman
Tak will confidently proclaim that the video holds the secret to solving the bullying problem, at which point, players will need to explain exactly how this is the case. There are three options to choose from, but the only one that will progress the story is “The onlookers are the problem.”
How to Avoid Security
A little later on, Tsukumo will mention that there is a problem with the camera in the second-floor stairwell, so players should make their way over there to investigate. They’ll find that someone has placed a sticker over the lens and will then be confronted by a student and a PE teacher, leading to a rather amusing chase scene.
Players will need to shimmy their way over to the right and then climb along the pipes to reach the flat roof section below. They’ll then have to climb a couple of ladders to get onto the roof of the gymnasium before using the drone as a guide to jump to another section of flat roof. From there, they’ll be able to reenter the school and, with the help of a little stealth, head over to Class 2-2.
In this section, players will have to sneak past security guards using coins and smoke balls, the latter of which can occasionally be picked up from the ground. After heading up to the roof, players should head down the opposite stairwell and then sneak past a few more guards to reach the classroom. Upon locating Koda’s desk, Tak will automatically place some speakers around the room, and is then joined by some unexpected visitors.
How to Beat Ya-kun
As well as the delinquent students from earlier, players will find themselves up against a couple of third-year rugby players. Both of them are very strong, but Ya-kun is by far the bigger threat. Defeating the weaker enemies first will allow players to focus all of their attention on him, so choosing the right fighting style is rather important.
Players should use Crane Style to thin the herd and then switch to Tiger Style when Ya-kun is the only enemy remaining. Like in any fight, dodging is very important, as too is punishing Ya-kun immediately after dodging one of his powerful attacks by hitting the circle/B button when prompted. Players will know when one is imminent, as Ya-kun will begin to glow red just before attacking.
How to Solve the Bullying Problem
After punishing the rowdy students, players should make their way back to Yokohama 99 and rest up on the couch. In the morning, they’ll need to return to Seiryo High, where Tak’s plan will finally be revealed. Both Sawa and the chairman will congratulate the detective for successfully resolving the issue, after which, the First Penguin trophy/achievement will be unlocked.
Tak will then receive a phone call from Saori, one of his former colleagues at Genda Law. She’ll tell him about a murder case involving a Seiryo High School student teacher and ask him to investigate the suicide of one of the school’s former students. Interestingly, this student just so happens to be the son of the handsy police officer, Ehara, who popped up several times during the prologue.
