RELATED: Lost Judgment: How Long to Beat
Though the story content in Lost Judgment’s third chapter is actually quite scarce, there are two automatic side cases to complete, not to mention a myriad of optional ones. As a result, the chapter will likely take most players at least one hour to complete: several, if they opt to tackle all of the side cases and School Stories that are available.
How to Unlock the Buzz Researcher App
Once the meeting with the police is finally over, Sawa will agree to sit down with Tak at nine o’clock at the Plage coffee shop on Iseezaki Street. It’s far too early to head straight there, but players can finally leave the confines of the school, at which point Tak will call Kaito to provide him with an update.
The next main objective is to return to Yokohama 99, where Tsukumo and Tak will do a bit more research on Ehara’s son, Toshiro. Tsukumo will also tell Tak about a new app he’s been working on called Buzz Researcher, which searches Chatter (a parody of Twitter) for various keywords in an attempt to pinpoint the locations of potential crimes.
How to Find the Arachnid Man
Buzz Researcher is the key to unlocking numerous side cases, the first of which is called The Falling Man. Players should use the “arachnid man” keyword search, which will add a new quest marker on the map. Upon arriving at the marked location, players will need to pull out their Noise Amp, which should lead them to a man hanging off the side of a nearby building.
Players will need to use parkour to scale the building and reach the man, after which, both he and Tak will be back on the ground. The man in black will Tel Tak that he was birdwatching; a claim that players can refute by pointing out that swallows are migratory birds and therefore cannot be found in Yokohama during the winter months.
After selecting all three dialogue options, players will regain control and should walk behind the man and enter observation mode. They’ll then be able to find a pair of pink panties hanging out of his back pocket, allowing Tak to expose the true reason behind the man’s wall-crawling antics.
Following a fairly simple fight, the panty thief will be placed under arrest and there’ll be a throwback to one of the characters in the first Judgment game. As Tak points out, Tamai is nowhere near as memorable as Professor Panty, but it’s one of many nice little nods to the game’s origins that returning players should appreciate.
The Showdown at Plage
After heading back to Yokohama 99, a few more side cases become available. Several of them, like “Where is the Time Capsule?” are triggered in or around the school, while the others can be found scattered around the map or on the Job Requests boards at the two detective agencies. They can all be completed at any time prior to the game’s climax, however, so there’s really no rush.
Whenever they’re ready, players should make their way to Plage, where they’ll be confronted by a small army of masked men. Thankfully, there are plenty of potential weapons littering the area, which, together with the fantastic crowd-controlling potential of Crane Style, make this a much easier fight than it might otherwise appear.
After dealing with the masked men, players will be introduced to Jin Kuwana, who reveals that the men are members of a gang called the Yokohama Liumang. He’ll also scare the men away, depriving Tak of the chance to interrogate them and find out why exactly they were accosting him in the first place.
Tak will head inside to find Sawa at this point, who, before leaving, will hand Tak a photo of what appears to be Mikoshiba moments before his death. Players should examine Mikshiba’s face, tie, either of his arms, and the debris above his right shoulder in order to complete the investigation.
How to Beat Kuwana
Once he’s finished analyzing the photograph, Tak will head back outside where he’ll once again run into Kuwana. There’s a short conversation between the pair, after which an epic showdown ensues. It’s easily the most difficult fight that players have come up against so far and one that players should approach with an air of caution.
Kuwana is quick, powerful, and has a ridiculous amount of health, so players should utilize weapons, healing items, and the dodge button as required. Tiger Style is generally the best option for taking Kuwana down, though the increased mobility of Crane Style may be better suited to some players’ individual fighting styles.
How to Complete the ‘Extracting the Past’ Side Case
Eventually, Kaito and Sugiura will show up to calm things down and the pair will end up taking Kuwana out for drinks. Tak will head back to Yokohama 99 alone, but will run into Iyama on the way there, another character from the first Judgment game.
This triggers another side case, “Extracting the Past,” in which Tak will need to protect Iyama from a man named Kazamiya. Thankfully, by using the special extract that Iyama provides, this ends up being an incredibly easy fight in which players simply need to press the circle/B button a bunch of times.
When players next gain control, they’ll find themselves in Iyama’s extract shop. The old hermit will explain how extracts work and there’ll be a short tutorial in which players make one for themselves. Iyama will then ask for some Mugwort, which can be found growing in numerous places including the courtyard of Seiryo High and Hamakita Park to the north of the map.
Handing over the plant will complete the “Extracting the Past” side case and reward players with the Super Strength extract recipe. If they really want to, players can begin the “Extracting the Truth” side case at this point as well. In terms of the main story though, all that’s left to do is return to Yokohama 99 and speak to Tsukumo, which will bring the chapter to an end.
