Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio had announced that Lost Judgment will get a story expansion centered around Masaharu Kaito, a major supporting character from this series. Titled The Kaito Files, this DLC will be available to all users who bought the Ultimate Edition of Lost Judgment but can also be purchased separately. Kaito will be playable for the first time in the series, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has now revealed the release date for this expansion.

The Kaito Files story expansion for Lost Judgment will launch on consoles later this month on March 28. It will cost $29.99 and will consist of 4 chapters, with a reported total length of around 10 hours. Unlike Yagami’s 4 fighting styles in Lost Judgment, Kaito will have access to 2 styles named Bruiser and Tank. Additionally, Kaito can use Primal Focus to heighten his senses to investigate crime scenes and solve cases.

The Kaito Files is set in Kamurocho and takes place after the events of Lost Judgment. While searching for an ex named Mikiko, Kaito runs into Jun, a teenager who claims to be his son. The story revolves around them teaming up together to find the truth behind Mikiko’s disappearance. It looks like The Kaito Files will take a deep dive into Kaito’s past and fans can expect it to have an engaging narrative like the rest of this franchise.

As the mainline Yakuza series fully transitions to turn-based combat, many fans believed that the Judgment franchise will continue to use the brawler-style battle system from previous games. Unfortunately, it looks like the future of Judgment is up in the air, due to a rights conflict with a talent agency in Japan.

It was reportedly the biggest reason for Lost Judgment’s absence on PC, even though all other games are available on the platform. It has seemingly sold well enough to warrant further entries and many fans probably want to play more Yakuza games with an action combat system. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio may even consider making a new IP to fulfill this demand.

Lost Judgment is available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
